At some point in every software developer's career, the term Scope Creep will be discussed.

Scope creep in project management refers to changes, continuous or uncontrolled growth in a project’s scope, at any point after the project begins. — Wikipedia

Scope Creep usually comes from poorly defined expectations of work, bad management, or clients trying to eke out more from the project manager.

I want to cover a cousin of Scope Creep I’ve been seeing more and more over the past few years. I don’t know of any other term for it, so for the article's sake, I will call it Hype Creep.

What Is Hype Creep?

Hype Creep is the ill-advised expansion of a project’s scope to include new and exciting technology.

Imagine you’re trying to define the work needed for a new application with your team. Not too long ago, an exciting technology was released. Everyone at work talks about it, and online personalities praise it in blogs and podcasts. Egar to try it out, your team members start suggesting features so they can use the new tech.
